Men's Basketball Welcomes Iona for Home Openers This Weekend

Broncs, Gaels both enter weekend 1-1 in league play

What You Need To Know
- Rider continues MAAC play with its home openers against Iona. The Broncs began league play with a road split at Manhattan. 
- Dwight Murray, Jr. has been an all-around bright spot so far this season, averaging 18.0 points, 7.8 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game, including a near triple-double of 20 points, a career-high 15 rebounds and seven assists in a win at Manhattan on Dec. 11.
- Christian Ings returned from a one-game absence due to injury at St. John's to score 14 and 15 points, respectively, in two games at Manhattan on Dec. 11-12.
- Iona owns a 41-26 lead in the all-time series with Rider, including wins in each of the last four meetings. The Broncs are 4-13 against the Gaels under Head Coach Kevin Baggett.
- Rider is 0-3 all-time against new Iona Head Coach Rick Pitino, having fallen to Providence on Dec. 20, 1986 and Kentucky twice, including the 1993 NCAA Tournament First Round.
- The Gaels are led by Isaiah Ross, who's averaging 21.4 points per game. Nelly Joseph has contributed 9.2 points and 6.4 rebounds per game, while Dylan Van Eyck (8.6 ppg., 6.0 rpg.), Ryan Myers (8.2 ppg.) and Berrick JeanLouis (7.4 ppg., 6.8 rpg.) have also made strong contributions.
- Rodney Henderson, Jr. had 20 points, five rebounds and two steals in the near upset at St. John's. Allen Powell also added a career-high 17 points.
- Rider returned just four letterwinners from last year's team that finished 18-12 and was the No. 3 seed in the MAAC Tournament before it was cancelled.
- The Broncs are tasked with replacing 87.6% of its scoring from a year ago, second most in the nation behind only Kentucky (94.0%).
- Ninth-year Head Coach Kevin Baggett's teams have posted a 142-119 record. Baggett won MAAC Coach of the Year in 2015 and 2018.
