LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Rider University women's basketball team lost to Manhattan, 50-38, on Saturday night at Alumni Gymnasium in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action.
In a defensive battle, the Jaspers (2-1, 2-0 MAAC) secured the regular season sweep of the Broncs (0-6, 0-2 MAAC).
The two teams traded the lead throughout the opening 20 minutes of action before Manhattan took a two-point edge at 19-17 into halftime.
Back-and-forth the two squads went before layups by
Amanda Mobley (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh) and freshman
Makayla Firebaugh (Winchester, VA/James Wood) gave Rider its largest lead of the game at 26-23 with 2:14 left in the third quarter.
After a bucket from
Lenaejha Evans (Conway, SC/Conway [Pensacola St. College]) gave the hosts a two-point lead with under a minute remaining in the third, the Jaspers would score the next six points stretching into the fourth quarter to build a lead they would not relinquish.
Over the final 10 minutes, Manhattan shot 50 percent (7-of-14) from the field to pull away.
