- Rider was awarded the MAAC Tournament trophy after earning the top seed in the MAAC Basketball Championships for the first time in program history last season. The Broncs set new program records in overall (26) and league (18) wins.
- Rider graduated six seniors, including Honorable Mention All-American and recent WNBA rookie Stella Johnson (Washington Mystics), who was the 2019-20 NCAA Division I scoring champion (24.8 ppg.). Also moving on were MAAC Defensive Player of the Year Amari Johnson (11.6 ppg., 10.6 rpg.) and All-MAAC Second Team selection Lea Favre (11.9 ppg., 51.8 FG%), along with fellow starter Aubre Johnson and key reserves Lexi Stover and Tracey Goodman.
- Rider's top returner is junior point guard Amanda Mobley (9.2 ppg., 5.0 apg.), a Preseason All-MAAC Second Team pick. 
- Rider and Villanova have not met since the 2001-02 season. The Wildcats have won all seven meetings all-time.
- Villanova is led by 2020 Big East Rookie of the Year Maddy Siegrist, who averaged a team-best 18.8 points and 8.9 rebounds per game in 2019-20. She was named one of the Top 10 freshmen in the country by ESPN.com. Siegrist was named to the Katarina McClain Award Watch List, signifying the Top 20 power forwards in the country.
- The Broncs were picked seventh in the MAAC Preseason Coaches Poll.
- Rider is 6-7 all-time in season openers under 14^th-year Head Coach Lynn Milligan.
