Men's Swimming & Diving Takes Down Bryant on Saturday

The Broncs won their fifth dual meet in a row

SMITHFIELD, RI – The Rider University men's swimming and diving team defeated host Bryant, 180-119, on Saturday in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action at the Chace Athletic Center Pool.
 
The Broncs (5-1, 2-0 MAAC) won their fifth straight dual meet, while the Bulldogs (3-3, 1-1 MAAC) dropped their second dual meet in a row.
 
Rider won 10 individual events and one relay on Saturday.
 
Senior Justin Carey (Landenberg, PA/Avon Grove) was dominant in the pool once again for Rider, winning three events. Carey won the 100 back (49.87), 100 free (46.68) and 100 fly (50.93).
 
Both sophomore Kyle Iorizzo (Norwood, NJ/Old Tappan Regional) and freshman Lucas Racevicius (Watertown, CT/Holy Cross High School) won a pair of events. Iorizzo was the top finisher in both the 1,000 free (9:53.61) and the 500 free (4:49.97), while Racevicius won the 200 free (1:43.69) and the 200 IM (1:54.71).
 
Cole May (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills) finished first overall in the 200 fly with a time of 1:56.52.
 
Junior Dillon Walles (The Woodlands, TX/The Woodlands High School) won both diving events. He finished first in the 1M with a score of 277.27 and he was the top finisher in the 3M with a total score of 314.65.
 
NOTES
- The Rider 400 free relay of Webster Bozzo, Joe Gewartowski, Matt Lequang and Daniel Bonge closed the meet with a victory.  
-Matt Lequang finished third in the 1,000 free with a time of 9:58.58.
- Webster Bozzo came in third-place in the 200 free at 1:47.49.
- David Rucci was third in the 100 back with a mark of 51.95.
- David Cooper ended up in second-place in the 100 breast with a time of 1:00.38
- Andrew Iannacone finished third in the 100 breast at 1:00.73.
- Dimitri Maldonado came in third in the 200 fly at 2:00.28
- Joe Gewartowski was second in the 50 free with a time of 21.86.
- Jack Ruggieri ended up in third-place in the 50 free at 22.09.
- Lucas Racevicius also finished second in the 200 back with a time of 1:50.47.
- David Rucci also added a third-place finish in the 200 back at 1:54.40.
- David Cooper was also second in the 200 breast with a time of 2:08.48.
- Andrew Iannacone added a third-place result in the 200 breast thanks to touching at 2:18.61.
- Matt Lequang was also second in the 500 free with a time of 4:55.95.
- Cole May also added a second-place finish in the 100 fly at 51.52.
- David Rucci was also third in the 200 IM with a time of 1:55.71.
 
UP NEXT
Rider returns to action on Friday, January 24, with a home dual meet against Lafayette that is slated to begin at 6:00 pm. Prior to the meet, the team will honor its seniors for their contributions to the program.
