LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Rider University field hockey team fell at home to Georgetown, 1-0, on Friday afternoon in non-conference action at Ben Cohen Field.
Â
The Broncs (2-2) saw their five-game winning streak against the Hoyas (3-2) come to an end.
Â
Georgetown opened the scoring late in the first half off a penalty corner. The Hoyas got what proved to be the game-winning strike as Kylee Cunningham tipped a shot from Cami Osborne past Rider goalkeeper
Lena Vandam (Brasschaat, Belgium).
Â
Rider's best opportunity to score came late in regulation.
Â
The Broncs got a shot on goal from
Carly Brosious (Drexel Hill, PA/Monsignor Bonner/Archbishop Prendergast) which led to a penalty corner with just over two minutes left in regulation.
Â
After some nice passing off the corner, sophomore
Julia Divorra (Terrassa, Spain/Vedruna Vall) saw her shot from just in front of the cage turned aside by the Georgetown netminder.

NOTES & QUOTES
"We made some adjustments at halftime because we were totally flat and didn't have many scoring chances early on. The bottom line is we need to be more consistent in our play. We can't play as well as we did against Drexel and then not give our best effort today. Every day we need to be on it. We can't take days off."
– Rider Head Coach Lori Hussong
Â
- The Broncs had six shots on goal and Georgetown had two shots on target.
- Rider has surrendered just one goal in all four of its games this season. The Broncs have been shut out twice this year in four games after being blanked just once all of last season.
- The Broncs took eight corners in the game and the Hoyas had four.
- On Tuesday,
Lena Vandam was named the NEC Defensive Player of the Week.
- Also earlier this week,
Julia Divorra was tabbed as an NEC Prime Performer.
- Georgetown leads the all-time series, 7-6, with the Broncs.
