Field Hockey Signs Nine for 2019 Season

The newcomers will join the Broncs later this month

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Rider University Field Hockey Head Coach Lori Hussong has announced the written commitments of nine student-athletes for the 2019-20 academic year. Mia Frontino (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Memorial), Kiki van Ommeren (Amsterdam, Netherlands/Montessori Lyceum Amsterdam), Amanda Zambrana (Garwood, NJ/Arthur L/ Johnson), Danielle Tyson (East Stroudsburg, PA/East Stroudsburg High School South), Maeve Riehman (Norristown, PA/Archbishop Carroll), Sierra Giuliano (Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Regional), Hannah Hartwell (Monroeville, NJ/Delsea Regional), Jenna Segrave (Ledgewood, NJ/Roxbury) and Kaitlyn Tomas (Campbellville, Ontario/Appleby College) will all join the Broncs for the 2019 season.
 
"We could not be any happier or excited to be bringing our nine freshman into our family this fall," Hussong said. "All are talented players, but more importantly all are amazing people with positive energy. They will no doubt inject fun and laughter in to an already great group of returners and we can't wait to see us flourish together."
 
MIA FRONTINO
Frontino was a member of the varsity field hockey team at Haddonfield Memorial High School. During her interscholastic career, her team captured section championships in 216, 2017 and 2018 as well as winning the state title in 2016 and 2017. She registered a point in every one of her team's games as a senior. Frontino played club for Spirit of USA and her squad won a gold medal at the National Indoor Tournament and also won a gold medal at the Disney Showcase.

"Mia comes to us from a program rich in winning tradition. She is hard working and an excellent communicator. She is team oriented and positive in every way. She will provide a spark of energy and will be a positive asset to our team."
 
KIKI VAN OMMEREN
Van Ommeren comes to Lawrenceville from the Netherlands. She most recently starred for the First Ladies team of Athena ma1. She has played field hockey since she was five years old and has played at the highest level for her age group since starting to play field hockey.

"We are thrilled to welcome Kiki to our Rider family alongside her sister, Tess. Kiki plays the game with precise skill and super determination. She loves the game, always works hard to improve her skills set and never settles for anything but her best effort. She has quick hands, skill, speed and grit which makes her dangerous in the field."
 
AMANDA ZAMBRANA
Zambrana was as a four-year member of the varsity field hockey team at Arthur L. Johnson High School. In her career, she scored 18 goals, dished out 18 assists and made 12 defensive saves. As a freshman, she earned second team all-conference honors and was tabbed as her school's Rookie of the Year. As a sophomore, she was first team all-conference, first team all-county, first team All-North Jersey and her team's Most Improved Player. As a junior, she earned first team all-conference, first team all-county, second team All North Jersey, second team all Group 1 NJ. As a senior, she was the team's captain as well as earning first team all-conference, first team all-county, first team All-North Jersey, second team all Group 1 NJ and she was selected to the North Jersey Senior All Star game.

DANIELLE TYSON
Tyson was a four-year member of the varsity field hockey team at East Stroudsburg High School South. Interscholastically, she was also a member of the varsity track and field team. Tyson plays club for Marojoka Field Hockey. She was a two-year captain for both her club team and high school team. Tyson was the highest scorer on her high school team during her junior campaign. She earned her team's Coaches' Award and also the Scholar Athlete award. She received Second Team All EPC honors and her club team captured a gold medal thanks finishing first in their bracket at Disney.

"Danielle is a diamond in the rough. She has blazing speed and a fierce hunger to pressure and steal all over the field. She will be a nice addition to our front line. We feel she has tremendous potential to explode at the college level and can't wait to see how far she can develop her game."
 
MAEVE RIEHMAN
Riehman was a three-year member of the varsity field hockey team at Archbishop Carroll High School. Interscholastically, she also played varsity basketball and ultimate Frisbee. In field hockey, she was a co-captain in 2018 and her team captured the 2018 PCL Championship. Also as a senior, she played in the Philapfh Senior All-Star game as well as earning First Team All-Catholic, First Team All-Delaware County and First Team All-Main Line.

"Maeve is a smooth operator who is smart and disciplined on the field. She has great tactical awareness which allows her to always be thinking a play ahead. We look forward to watching her grow and develop at the college level."
 
SIERRA GIULIANO
Giuliano was a four-year member of the varsity field hockey team at Delsea Regional High School. As a senior, she finished seventh in the state with 91 total points and eighth in the state in goals with 36. In her career, she scored 79 goals and added 61 assists. Giuliano was a three-time First Team All-Tri-County Conference honoree and two-time team MVP. She also earned Second Team All-State honors as well as First Team All-Group 2 Division as well as being tabbed as the South Jersey Times Player of the Year and the Tri-County Conference Player of the Year.

"Sierra is a skilled and talented player. She loves to score, but more importantly loves to pass which is a winning combination for success. She plays with a sixth sense and makes the game look so easy. We can't wait to see what she can provide to our success."
 
HANNAH HARTWELL
Hartwell was a four-year member of the varsity field hockey team at Delsea Regional High School and a two-year team captain. She earned the team's Unsung Hero Award and led the state in assists. Hartwell was First Team All-Tri-County and selected to the South Jersey Senior All Star game. Her high school squad also captured three straight Tri-County Championships.

"Hannah comes to Rider after an amazing career at Delsea. Hannah is a crafty player who is equally as strong on the back line as well as the midfield line. She has a knack for reading a play ahead and a great stealing intuition." 
 
JENNA SEGRAVE
Segrave was a three-year member of the varsity field hockey team at Roxbury High School. Interscholastically, she was also a four-year member of the varsity lacrosse team. In 2017, she earned First Team NJAC All-Conference honors, Third Team All-Morris County accolades and was her team's MVP. As a senior, she earned First Team All-NJAC accolades, Second Team All-Morris County distinction and her team's MVP award.

"Jenna is a powerful, aggressive player who reads and intercepts with confidence. She is quick and tenacious and is always ready to attack. Effort, hustle and desire to succeed will definitely put her in the mix to fight for a job."
 
KAITLYN TOMAS
Tomas was a member of the varsity field hockey team at Appleby and her team captured CISAA Championships all four years. She also played club for A&C Field Hockey Academy.

"Kaitlyn comes to us from Ontario, Canada. She is a passionate goalkeeper who has excellent communication skills and a natural instinct for the ball. She has quick feet and hands and is always hungry to improve. She will be a welcome addition to our goalkeeping unit."
