Sara Gardner's Career Comes to an End at the NCAA East Preliminary Championships

She finished 23rd overall in the 100m hurdles

JACKSONVILLE, NJ – Graduate student Sara Gardner (Holland Township, NJ/Delaware Valley) of the Rider University track and field team competed in the quarterfinals of the 100m hurdles at the NCAA East Preliminary Championships on Saturday. The three-day event is contested at the University of North Florida's Hodges Stadium.

"Unfortunately at some point each year the season comes to an end and today that was it," Rider Head Coach Bob Hamer said.

In her second straight day of competition, Gardner posted a time of 13.56 to finish 23rd overall. With her time she will not advance to the NCAA Championships as her collegiate career comes to an end.

"Sara was up against some great competition today," Hamer added. "She needed a great result and unfortunately today was not her day. She advanced further than she ever had before so hopefully she will cherish this memory and this moment at some point down the road. She has had so many outstanding moments for this program and she has been an exemplary representative of Rider during her time here. She will be remembered as one of the all-time greats and she will be missed in so many ways."
