LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Rider University baseball lost at home to regional foe Lafayette, 15-0, on Tuesday afternoon at Sonny Pittaro Field in non-conference action.
The Broncs (13-30) suffered their 10th straight setback, while the Leopards (17-27) bounced back from a loss in their last outing.
Lafayette broke open a two-run contest in the top of the fifth with seven runs. In the inning, the guests scored four runs with two outs and collected five hits total in the frame. The Leopards would add four insurance runs in the seventh and two more in the ninth.
Offensively, Rider was able to muster just four hits. The Broncs were not able to record more than one hit in any frame.
Joe Simone (Wayne, NY/Wayne Hills),
Zach Fick (South Elgin, IL/St. Charles North),
Sebastian Williamson (Oley, PA/Oley Valley) and
Riley Mihalik (Churchville, PA/Chestnut Hill Academy) all had one hit apiece in the tilt.
On the mound, freshman

NOTES & QUOTES
"Once again, the competitive phase of the game ended in the fifth with walks, hit batters and the inability to close out the inning. Errors by pitchers were a factor early as well. The face that we only got four hits makes it difficult to win or compete."
– Rider Head Coach Barry Davis
- Lafayette has now won back-to-back games against the Broncs after topping Rider, 9-8, in early February of 2018.
- Defensively, Eiser committed three errors, two of which came on errant throws on pick-off attempts.
-
Nick Payesko worked two innings of relief and allowed one earned run, while scattering a pair of hits and striking out one.
- Rider pitchers hit five batters in the game and issued seven walks.
- Mihalik and Williamson are now tied for the team-lead with 50 hits apiece. Mihalik has recorded 48 or more hits in each of his last three season as he is up to 182 hits in his career.
