LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ –
Debra Jones (Bordentown, NJ/Bordentown) limited Princeton to just one earned run on four hits without walking a batter in a complete-game victory in Game 1 as the Rider University softball team split Wednesday. Rider took Game 1, 3-1, before falling in Game 2, 9-1. With the split, the Broncs move to 4-24, while the Tigers are now 7-16.
The Broncs got on the board first in Game 1 with three runs in the top of the first, capitalizing on
Kelsey Marigliano's (Seaford, NY/Plainledge) bunt single and four errors by the Tigers infield in the frame. The support was more than enough for Jones, who kept the Tigers off balanced and didn't walk a batter. Princeton's lone run came on two singles and a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth.
In Game 2, Princeton's offense came alive with four runs in the first, two more in the second and three in the third. The Broncs' lone run came in the third, when Marigliano singled, went first-to-third on a
Shelby Miller (Roseville, CA/Whitney) single and scored on a wild pitch. But up, 9-1, Princeton closed out the five-inning victory.
