Miscues Hurt Baseball in Loss at Quinnipiac

The Bobcats completed the three-game series sweep with the 15-4 victory on Monday

HAMDEN, CT – The Rider University baseball team fell on the road to Quinnipiac, 15-4, on Monday afternoon in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action at the QU Baseball Field.

With the win, the Bobcats (19-23, 11-4 MAAC) secured the series sweep, while the Broncs (13-29, 4-11 MAAC) suffered their ninth straight setback.

The two teams traded runs early as the guests knotted the score at two in the top of the second thanks to back-to-back RBI singles from infielders Zach Fick (South Elgin, IL/St. Charles North) and David Bermudez (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick).

The Bobcats responded with a run in the bottom half of the second to take the lead back for good. Quinnipiac pulled away courtesy of a five-run outburst in the fifth. The hosts would also add three runs in the sixth, one in the seventh and a pair of insurance runs in the eighth.

Offensively, junior outfielder Sebastian Williamson (Oley, PA/Oley Valley) paced the Bronc attack. Williamson accounted for three of Rider's nine hits on the day as he went 3-for-4 with a stolen base.

On the mound, freshman Andrew Imperatore (New Hyde Park, NY/Herricks) got the start for the Broncs and suffered the loss. He went four innings and allowed five runs (four of which were earned). Imperatore scattered three hits, walked six batters and struck out a trio of Bobcats.
