HARTFORD, CT – The Rider University baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader against Quinnipiac on Saturday in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action. The Broncs dropped the opener, 16-9, and the Bobcats scored a 7-1 victory in the nightcap.
Rider (13-28, 4-10) has now dropped eight games in a row, while Quinnipiac (18-23, 10-4) snapped a two-game skid with the doubleheader sweep.
In the opener, the two teams combined for 25 runs and 26 teams. The first game saw six different lead changes. Trailing, 7-5, in the top of the seventh, the Broncs saw the first three batters in the inning reach base via walks. With the bases loaded, junior
Jack Peterson (Pittstown, NJ/North Hunterdon) took a 3-2 pitch over the fence for a grand slam to give the guests a 9-7 edge.
Quinnipiac answered with five runs in the bottom half of the seventh and the hosts would later add four more insurance runs in the eight to pull away.
In the nightcap, Rider was able to muster to just one hit and one run in defeat. The Broncs produced their lone run in the contest in the third inning as
Kyle Johnson (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial) came around to score on an infield single by
Sebastian Williamson (Oley, PA/Oley Valley).
NOTES
- In game one, Peterson went 2-for-5 with four RBIs and one run scored. The homer was his fourth of the season and his first grand slam as a Bronc.
- Freshman
David Bermudez had a career day in the opener. He went 3-for-4 with two RBIs.

Joe Simone also had two RBIs in game one.

Brennan McAllister went 1-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored in game one.

Kyle Johnson stole a base in both games of the doubleheader.
