Baseball Loses a Pair of Games at Georgetown

Sebastian Williamson had five hits on the day

WASHINGTON, DC – The Rider University baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader against Georgetown on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at Shirley Povich Field. The Broncs lost the opener, 12-7, and the Hoyas rallied to take game two, 10-9.

Rider (13-25) has now lost five games in a row and Georgetown (13-26) has now won four of its last five games.

In game one, Georgetown erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the second inning and jumped out to an 11-0 lead en route to the victory. The Broncs were able to score three runs in the top of the fifth and two runs in both of the eighth and ninth innings, but it wasn't enough.

Sophomore Vincent Vitacco (Staten Island, NY/Monsignor Farrell) got the start in the opener and was saddled with the loss after allowing 11 runs in three and a third innings.

In the nightcap, the Hoyas erased a four-run deficit with a five-run rally in the seventh inning. After the frame started with an error, Georgetown hit a three-run homer with two outs and plated two more runs courtesy of another Rider fielding miscue to take back the lead for good.

NOTES & QUOTES
"When you give up 22 runs, earned or unearned it's a bad day. We hit today and some guys put together solid at-bats, but there are four or five plays making the difference. It's hard to fall behind 8-0 and win, which is what happened in game one. However, we battled back and gave ourselves a chance." – Rider Head Coach Barry Davis

- In game one, Kyle Smith tossed two-thirds of a scoreless inning. He retired both batters he faced.
- Anthony Arneth worked two and two-thirds scoreless innings in game one.  He struck out two batters and scattered three hits.
- Joe Simone was 1-for-5 with two RBIs in the opener.
- Richie Tecco, Riley Mihalik, Sebastian Williamson and Jack Peterson each had two hits in game one.
- Williamson, Kyle Johnson and Zach Fick each had three hits apiece in game two.
- Fick also had a career-high four RBIs in game two.
- Mike Ionta and Tecco both had two hits apiece in the nightcap.
