NEWARK, DE – The Rider University baseball team fell on the road to Delaware, 6-1, on Tuesday afternoon at Bob Hannah Stadium as part of the 2019 Liberty Bell Classic.
The Broncs (8-18) dropped their fourth contest in a row, while the Blue Hens (8-19) have now won two of their last three games.
Delaware jumped on Rider starter
Colin Eiser (Philadelphia, PA/Neumann Goretti) early, plating four runs in the bottom of the second. The Blue Hens would then add a pair runs in the fifth to chase Eiser from the game.
Offensively, the Broncs were unable to get on the board until the top of the ninth. In their final at-bat,
Jack Peterson (Pittstown, NJ/North Hunterdon) and
Joe Simone (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) started the frame with back-to-back doubles. Simone's two-bagger brought Peterson home to cap the scoring in the game.
Eiser was saddled with the loss after working five and two-thirds innings.

NOTES & QUOTES
"We managed very little offense today. We were solid in the middle of the order with our three, four, five and six batters collecting all six of our hits, but it's not going to be enough in most cases. Today was one of those cases. Colin was inconsistent with command early, but settled down and gave us five and two-thirds innings. Kyle was effective in relief pitching two and a third scoreless innings."
– Rider Head Coach Barry Davis
- When Eiser surrendered the four runs in the bottom of the second, he saw his streak of 17 scoreless innings come to an end. He tossed five innings for the second start in a row.
- In relief,
Kyle Smith worked two and a third scoreless innings. He scattered three hits.
-
Riley Mihalik went 2-for-4 for the Broncs. It was his 11th multi-hit game of the year.
- Simone also went 2-for-4 for Rider with an RBI. It was his second straight game with two or more hits. Â
