LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ –
Vanessa Canda (Jersey City, NJ/McNair Academic) and
Amanda Binder (Princeton, NJ/West Windsor Plainsboro North) won their No. 1 doubles match, but the Rider University women's tennis team fell to Niagara, 7-0, Friday morning. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 4-12 (1-5 MAAC), while the Purple Eagles are now 4-14 (1-4 MAAC).
Canda and Binder defeated Ali Hutchinson and Chhinda Som, 6-4, at No. 1 doubles. But the Purple Eagles took the doubles point with wins at Nos. 2 and 3.
Several close singles matches were contested, though Niagara took all six in straight sets. The closest came at Nos. 3 and 4. At No. 3,
Angelica Garcia (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Academia Maria Reina) was edged by Andreea Peteu, 7-5, 6-4, while Binder fell to Shannon Wong, 6-4, 7-6, at No. 4.
The Broncs return to action tomorrow, when they face La Salle.
