PRINCETON, NJ – Senior shortstop
Richie Tecco (Drexel Hill, PA/Monsignor Bonner) recorded his 100th career hit for the Rider University baseball team in a 11-0 setback for the Broncs against Princeton on Wednesday afternoon at Clarke Field.
Rider (13-23) has now dropped back-to-back non-conference road games, while the Tigers (8-21) won their second straight contest.
Princeton broke open a one-run game with an eight-run outburst in the home half of the fourth inning. During the spurt, the Tigers registered seven hits to build a 9-0 advantage. In the frame, the first seven batters that came to the plate for Princeton reached base safely as the hosts chased Rider starter
Andrew Imperatore (New Hyde Park, NY/Herricks).
The Tigers were not done as they added a pair of insurance runs in the seventh.
Rider mustered little offense in the game as the Broncs were only able to string together more than one hit in an inning in the third. Both of their hits in the stanza came with two outs and both Broncs were stranded.
Tecco is the third Bronc to record his 100th career hit this season, joining teammates
Kyle Johnson (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial) and
Joe Simone (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills).
NOTES & QUOTES
"Andrew was good today for the first three innings. Kirwin was better than his last outing out of the bullpen. We didn't hit at all today and put little to no pressure on Princeton. The failure to prevent the big inning was basically the end of the competitive phase of the game. We need to make some changes moving forward."
– Rider Head Coach Barry Davis
- Imperatore was saddled with the loss. He allowed six earned runs in three innings.
-
Danny Kirwin worked a scoreless inning of relief out of the bullpen for the Broncs.
-
Anthony Arneth also tossed a scoreless inning out of the bullpen. It was his second straight scoreless relief appearance for Rider.
