LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ –
Griffin Clark (Lititz, PA/Manheim Township) won at both singles and doubles as the Rider University men's tennis team defeated Coppin State, 5-2, Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Broncs are now 3-8, while the Eagles fall to 0-14.
The Eagles won two of three doubles flights to take a 1-0 lead. Clark and
Brandon Gildea (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional) paired to defeat Zaipo Oula and Quincy Pettis, 6-0, at No. 2, but Coppin State won at Nos. 1 and 3 to take the point.
However, Rider bounced back with wins at 5-of-6 singles flights to earn the match victory.
Peter Komosinski (Lake Hopatcong, NJ/Laurel Springs) defeated Prabh Bal, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 2, while
Lysander Payano Almonte (New Brunswick, NJ/Colegio Quusquey/Rockland C.C.) blanked Henrique Sada, 6-0, 3-0, at No. 3.
Ryan Ciaccio (Mercerville, NJ/Hamilton North [Nottingham]) won a tight match against Sam Scala-McNeill, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 3, while Clark got past Quincy Pettis, 6-2, 6-0.
Nicholas Salazar (Miami, FL/Westminster Christian School) rounded out the win by blanking Oula, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 6.
Rider returns to action Sunday, when it travels to Villanova at 10 a.m.
