STATEN ISLAND, NY – The Rider University baseball team fell on the road to Wagner, 9-1, on Wednesday evening under the lights at Richmond County Bank Ballpark.
The Broncs (12-20) have dropped two straight road games, while the Seahawks (10-18) won their second contest in a row.
Wagner wasted little time getting on the board as the hosts plated a pair of runs in the first inning.
In the top of the fifth, Rider made it a one-run contest thanks to an RBI groundout from senior shortstop
Richie Tecco (Drexel Hill, PA/Monsignor Bonner).
In the bottom half of the frame, the Seahawks answered with four runs on four hits to stretch their lead to five at 6-1.
The hosts put the game out of reach with three insurance runs in the eighth.
On the mound, freshman southpaw
Andrew Imperatore (New Hyde Park, NY/Herricks) was saddled with the loss. He worked four-plus innings and allowed five earned runs, while scattering four hits and walking three.
