SAN FRANCISCO, CA – The Rider University baseball team fell on the road to San Francisco, 5-4, on Saturday afternoon at Benedetti Diamond on USF's campus.
The Broncs (4-8) dropped their second straight tilt, while the Dons (9-5) won their fourth game in a row.
Trailing 3-1 in the top of the fifth, Rider rallied with a three-run outburst to take a 4-3 edge. In the frame,
Kyle Johnson (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial) hit an RBI double,
Riley Mihalik (Churchville, PA/Chestnut Hill Academy) walked to bring home a run and Sebastian Willamson (Oley, PA/Oley Valley) hit a run-scoring grounder to short.
San Francisco knotted the game at four in the bottom half of the sixth inning with a sac fly.
The Dons capped the scoring in the seventh as the eventual game-winning run came around to score on a single to right center.
Out of the bullpen, freshman
Kyle Smith (Startford, NJ/Sterling) was saddled with loss.
NOTES & QUOTES
"We played well today with the exception of 10 walks and two hit batters from our pitchers. We turned three double plays to get us out of three separate jams. We need to hit with two outs and runners in scoring position. They did and we didn't today. Overall, I'm very happy with the effort from the team today."
