Santa Clara, Sacramento State Defeat Softball Saturday

Zeides compiles two hits, two RBI's

SACRAMENTO, CARachael Zeides (Woodbine, NJ/Ocean City) had two hits and drove in two runs, but the Rider University softball team fell to Santa Clara and Sacramento State Saturday in Capital Classic action. With the losses, the Broncs fall to 1-15, while the Broncos improved to 6-14 and the Hornets are now 14-12.

Santa Clara scored in each of the first game's five innings to build an insurmountable lead. The Broncos scored three runs in the first, second and fourth innings, added one in the third and two in the fifth to build a 12-2 lead. Zeides provided an RBI single in the first and another run scored on Melanie Wilkinson's (Richboro, PA/Council Rock South) bases-loaded walk in the third. Zeides added an RBI double in the fifth, but the Broncos' nine-run lead after five enacted the mercy rule.

In the day's second game, Sacramento State jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first and it was all Hornets starting pitcher Savanna Corr, who pitched a complete-game, one-hit shutout, would need. Sacramento State tacked on three more runs on a two-run home run and a sacrifice fly in the fifth to account for the 6-0 final score.
