DAVIS, CA – Four Broncs had a hit, but the Rider University softball team fell to UC Davis, 13-0, Sunday afternoon to close out the Capital Classic. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 1-16, while the Aggies are now 22-5.
The Aggies scored multiple runs in all four of their offensive frames to build an insurmountable lead. UC Davis struck for three in the first as the first three batters reached on a walk, a bunt single and a three-run home run. They'd tack on five more in the second, two in the third and three in the fourth to build their 13-0 lead.
Gabby Bram (Jackson, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) and
Kelsey Marigliano (Seaford, NY/Plainledge) each reached on singles in the third to mount the Broncs' greatest threat. But Aggies starting pitcher Sara Cardona pitched a complete-game shutout, limiting Rider to four hits on the afternoon.
