CONWAY, SC – Five Broncs totaled one hit each, but the Rider University softball team fell to Coastal Carolina and Boston University in its season openers Friday at the Kickin' Chicken Classic. Rider fell to the Chanticleers, 8-0, before suffering an 11-1 setback to the Terriers, both in five innings.
The Chanticleers built an 8-0 lead through three innings with three in the first, two in the second and three more in the third inning. The Broncs got on the board in the top of the fourth, as
Gabby Bram (Jackson, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) walked, pinch runner
Brianna Parisio (Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville War Memorial) moved to second on a wild pitch, moved to third on an error and scored on
Amanda Jordan's (Somerset, NJ/Franklin) groundout. But the run would be the Broncs' only tally of the day. Coastal Carolina ended the game in the bottom of the fifth with three runs.
Against Boston University, the Terriers got a run in the first, three more in the second and four in the fourth. Meanwhile, the support was all Terriers pitcher Emily Gant would need, as she spun a complete-game, one-hit shutout.
Maddy Chain (Gloucester, NJ/Gloucester City) registered the Broncs' lone hit, while
Kelsey Marigliano (Seaford, NY/Plainledge) reached on a walk.
