Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Falls at Manhattan, 73-66

Vaughn scores season-high 22 points

RIVERDALE, NY Dimencio Vaughn (New York, NY/Callaway/The Masters School) scored a season-high 22 points, but the Rider University men's basketball team fell at Manhattan, 73-66, Tuesday night at Draddy Gymnasium. With the loss, the Broncs slip to 12-10 (7-3 MAAC), while the Jaspers have now won three-straight to improve to 7-16 (5-6 MAAC).

After Manhattan opened the scoring with a three, the Broncs scored the next nine and led for the rest of the first half. The lead swelled to nine on a Vaughn three at the 5:43 mark, before Manhattan whittled the Broncs' lead to four, 35-31, at the halftime break. Rider shot 50.0 percent (12-24) from the floor in the opening 20 minutes, with Vaughn leading the way with 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting, including 3-for-3 from long range.

A 9-1 run early in the second half gave Manhattan its first lead since 3-0. Seven lead changes and four ties later, the Broncs surged ahead, 56-52, on five-straight points, four from Frederick Scott (Munster, IN/Simeon [DePaul]), Scott punctuated the spurt with a dunk at the 9:28 mark. But the Jaspers would answer with a 12-0 run and never trailed again.

Quotes & Notes
"We've just got to be disciplined. You've got to execute, got to be disciplined and come up with the 50-50 balls. Tonight, we didn't come up with them."

"Give (Manhattan's Tyler) Reynolds credit. He made some big shots. But when you let him get open and you let him get some looks, then he got going. I give him credit, he's a good player. But we needed to crowd him more and make him put the ball on the floor."

"I know Manhattan played with a sense of urgency. We came out – I'm not going to say our guys didn't – we came out with the right energy but we didn't finish with the right energy." – Rider Head Coach Kevin Baggett

- The game was the 54th in the all-time series with Manhattan. Rider now leads, 30-24. The Broncs had won the last five against the Jaspers.
