ELKTON, MD – The Rider University men's tennis team dropped its spring opener to Delaware, 7-0, Sunday afternoon at Elkton Indoor Tennis. With the loss, the Broncs slip to 2-4, while the Blue Hens are now 8-2.
Javier Melendez (Cayey, Puerto Rico/Colegio La Merced) and
Nicholas Salazar (Palmetto Bay, FL/Westminster Christian School) put up the best fight in doubles, pushing Curran Verma and Justice Jones at No. 2, before falling, 7-5. The Blue Hens swept the doubles point with a 6-1 win at No. 1 and a 6-2 victory at No. 3.
In singles, Delaware took all six flights in straight sets.
Peter Komosinski (Lake Hopatcong, NJ/Laurel Springs) tested Verma at No. 3, but fell, 6-3, 6-4.
Griffin Clark (Lititz, PA/Manheim Township) and Salazar also played competitive matches at Nos. 4 and 5, but fell 6-1, 6-3, and 6-3, 6-2, respectively.
The Broncs return to MAAC action on March 9, when they travel to hOURglass rival Monmouth. First serve is scheduled for 4 p.m.
