Women's Basketball Falls at Home to Quinnipiac

The Bobcats edged the Broncs, 66-60

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Rider University women's basketball team fell to visiting Quinnipiac, 66-60, on Thursday evening in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play inside Alumni Gymnasium.

The Broncs (15-11, 11-4 MAAC) suffered their second straight setback in conference action, while the Bobcats (20-6, 15-0 MAAC) clinched their fifth consecutive MAAC Regular Season Championship with the victory.

Rider led for over 30 minutes in the game before Quinnipiac mounted a late rally. The Broncs held a 47-43 edge heading into the final quarter before the Bobcats started the fourth on a 14-0 run. During the spurt that lasted nearly eight minutes, Rider missed its first 11 shots in the frame and committed a pair of turnovers.

The Broncs came charging out the gates as Rider led 27-11 after the first quarter. During the opening stanza, Rider shot over 71 percent (10-of-14) from the field and knocked down a trio of three-pointers. The hosts would take a 33-27 advantage into the break.

A pair of Rider players scored in double figures in the contest, highlighted by senior point guard Lexi Posset (Pittsburg, PA/Beaver Area) pouring in a team-high 15 points. Junior Amari Johnson (Red Lion, PA/Dallastown) was the other Bronc in double figures as she recorded a double-double thanks to a 10-point, 13-rebound performance.

NOTES & QUOTES
"I thought we played really hard tonight. We came in with a good game plan and the young ladies were really focused and ready to go. Really proud of our effort. I think it was a good ball game.  Defensively, we were on point. When we made our mistakes it was obvious. We gave them a couple easy ones that came back to get us. Overall, it was a solid basketball game. It's a growth game for us. A lot of lessons to take from this." – Rider Head Coach Lynn Milligan

- Quinnipiac has now won all 15 meetings between the two teams.
- Junior guard Stella Johnson fouled out after being issued a technical foul less than a minute into the fourth quarter. Rider led, 47-45, at that point.
- The Broncs 37 percent from the field (20-of-54).
- Rider converted on over 78 percent of their free-throw attempts (11-of-14).
