CONWAY, SC –
Gabby Bram (Jackson, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) and
Lani Moreno (Claremont, CA/Claremont) had two hits each, but the Rider University softball team fell to Boston University and nationally-ranked No. 8 Tennessee Sunday afternoon to conclude play in the Kickin Chicken Classic. With the losses, the Broncs fall to 0-6 on the year.
In the first game of the day, the Broncs racked up a season-high five hits and two runs, but fell, 8-2. The Terriers jumped out to an 8-0 lead through five and a half innings on the strength of two in the first, four in the fourth and single runs in the fifth and sixth innings. The Broncs prolonged the game with a two-run bottom of the sixth. A Moreno single and
Kelsey Marigliano (Seaford, NY/Plainledge) walk set the table for
Elyse Cuttic's (Easton, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) one-out RBI single to score Moreno and leave runners on the corners. Bram followed with her second hit of the day, an RBI single to left to plate Marigliano. But the Terriers limited the damage to two and closed out the 8-2 win.
Against Tennessee, the Vols jumped out to an insurmountable lead with six runs in the first, seven in the second and another five in the third. The Broncs' offense consisted of a Marigliano walk, a
Grace Stansfield (Philadelphia, PA/William Penn Charter) double and a
Melanie Wilkinson (Richboro, PA/Council Rock South) hit-by-pitch.
