Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Takes Down Georgetown on Saturday

The Broncs got a defensive stop at the buzzer to hold on for a 65-64 win

WASHINGTON, DC – Senior forward Aubre Johnson (Post Falls, ID/Post Falls) scored the game-winning basket with eight seconds left in regulation to lead the Rider University women's basketball team past host Georgetown, 65-64, in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at McDonough Arena.

The Broncs (5-2) earned their second victory this season over a team from the BIG EAST, while the Hoyas (2-8) suffered their fourth straight loss.

After a scramble for a loose ball past midcourt, Rider sophomore guard Amanda Mobley (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh) found Aubre in the post and the senior scored through contact. Johnson would miss the free throw and the Hoyas called a timeout after the rebound bounced out of bounds with 6.6 seconds left on the clock.

The Bronc defense stood its ground on the final possession as Georgetown saw its final shot attempt from the base line bounce off the side of the backboard.

Offensively, senior Stella Johnson (Denville, NJ/Morris Catholic) paced the Bronc attack with a game-high 30 points to go along with eight rebounds, four steals, one block and one assist.

Junior Daija Moses (Toronto, Ontario/Henry Street) and senior Lea Favre (Vevey, Swtzerland/Lycee Jeanne D'Arc) were the other Broncs in double figures. Moses had a career-high 12 points off the bench for Rider, while Favre chipped 12 points as well.

NOTES & QUOTES
"It was a gutsy, gritty road win by our team today. The game went back-and-forth and we stuck together. When we needed to make plays today we did. Defensively, we did a solid job. Georgetown has a lot of great talent and we locked in with a great stop to end the game. I'm proud of our effort and growth today." – Rider Head Coach Lynn Milligan
