Men's Swimming & Diving Defeats La Salle & Delaware on Saturday

The Broncs are now 4-1 in dual meets this season

PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Rider University men's swimming and diving team competed in a double dual meet against Delaware and La Salle on Saturday afternoon at Kirk Pool.
 
The Broncs (4-1) defeated to the host Explorers, 186-109, and Rider also took down the Blue Hens, 186.5-110.5.
 
On the day, the Rider men won nine different events.
 
Senior Justin Carey (Landenberg, PA/Avon Grove) was dominant once again for Rider in the pool, winning all three of the individual events in which he competed. Carey finished first in the 100 back (50.62), 100 free (46.54) and the 100 fly (49.74).
 
Sophomores David Cooper (Spring, TX/Klein Oak) and Joe Gewartowski (Fort Washington, PA/Upper Dublin) each won one individual event on the day. Cooper finished first in the 200 breast at 2:09.43, while Gewartowski touched first in the 50 free with a time of 21.39.
 
The final two winners in the swimming events on Saturday were freshmen Andrew Iannacone (Yardley, PA/Holy Ghost Prep) and Lucas Racevicius (Watertown, CT/Holy Cross High School). Iannacone took the 100 breast with a time of 59.78 and Racevicius won the 200 IM at 1:57.13.
 
Junior Dillon Walles (The Woodlands, TX/The Woodlands High School) had another solid day on the boards for the Broncs. Walles won the 3M for the fifth meet in a row with a score of 343.50. He also added a second-place finish in the 1M with a mark of 292.15.
 
NOTES
- The Rider 200 medley relay quartet of Justin Carey, Andrew Iannacone, Jack Ruggieri and Joe Gewartowski won with a time of 1:33.61.
- Matt Lequang was second in both the 1,000 free (9:48.36) and the 500 free (4:41.77).
- Lucas Racevicius also added a second-place results in the 200 free with a time of 1:43.47 and the 200 back at 1:54.21.
- David Cooper came in second in the 100 breast with a time of 1:00.35.
- David Rucci finished third in both the 100 back (52.68) and the 200 back (1:56.24).
- Cole May came in third-place in the 200 fly (1:55.70) and the 100 fly (51.95).
- The Bronc 400 free relay of Joe Gewartowski, Daniel Bonge, Webster Bozzo and Matt Lequang came in second-place with a time of 3:09.68.
- Webster Bozzo was third in the 50 free at 21.92.
 
UP NEXT
Rider next competes in the Bucknell Invitational. The three-day event takes place December 6-8 in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania.
