Field Hockey Falls to Lock Haven on Senior Day

The Broncs honored their five graduating players before the game

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Rider University field hockey team closed out the 2019 regular season with a 1-0 setback against visiting Lock Haven on Sunday afternoon in non-conference action at Ben Cohen Field.

The Broncs (12-6) saw their four-game home winning streak come to an end, while the Bald Eagles (11-7) won their fourth straight contest.

A majority of the game was played in the middle of the field as the two teams combined for just seven shots (six of which were on goal).

After a scoreless first half, the guests got on the board as MacKenzie Farley scored the eventual game-winning goal off a penalty corner.

Trailing by a goal, Rider threatened early in the fourth quarter as sophomore Tess van Ommeren (Amsterdam, Netherlands/Sint Nicolaas Lyceum) fired a shot just over the cage and classmate Julia Divorra (Terrassa, Spain/Vedruna Vall) would follow that with a shot that was turned aside by the Lock Haven goalkeeper.

NOTES & QUOTES
"Every time we play Lock Haven it's always a midfield game. They scored off one of their corners and we didn't capitalize on our chances. They are a very good. They were stronger physically than us and they wanted it more. We had to do a better job of winning 50-50 balls." – Rider Head Coach Lori Hussong

- All three of Rider's losses at home this fall came by scores of 1-0.
- Lock Haven has won three of the last four meetings between the two teams.
- Rider outshot Lock Haven, 4-3. Each team had three shots on goal.
- The Broncs took seven penalty corners and the Bald Eagles took six.
- Prior to the game, Rider honored its five graduating players (Marion Waterkeyn, Lena Vandam, Heili Carpino, Tess Coorens and Jade Freeberg) for their contributions to the program.

BRONCS BY THE NUMBERS
- Junior Lena Vandam had one save in a losing effort.
- Freshman Maeve Reiehman recorded her first career defensive save in the fourth quarter.
