Field Hockey Dominates Bryant, 2-0

Broncs clinch 20th straight conference tournament berth

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Rider University field hockey team defeated visiting Bryant, 2-0, on Friday afternoon at Ben Cohen Field. With the win, the Broncs (11-4, 4-1 NEC) won their second-straight conference contest and clinched an NEC Tournament berth, while the Bulldogs (2-15, 1-4 NEC) watched their losing streak extend to three games.

Rider struck fast and first in the contest as sophomore Julia Divorra (Terrassa, Spain/Vedruna Vall) scored unassisted in the sixth minute, besting the Bulldog defense. Rider would strike again seconds before the end of the first period off of a penalty corner. Tess van Ommeren's corner would find Carly Brosious (Drexel Hill, PA/Monsignor Bonner/Archbishop Prendergast) whose shot deflected off a Bryant defender and in to give the Broncs a 2-0 lead going in to the second quarter.

The Broncs' two first-quarter goals would be more than enough to secure the victory, with the final three quarters being played scoreless. The Rider defense was strong, allowing just one shot, while the Broncs' offense produced 19 shots, with 10 on goal. Junior goalie Lena Vandam (Brasschaat, Belgium) made one save in the shutout victory.

NOTES & QUOTES
"This game was so important in terms of making the conference playoffs. So I knew that every moment that they stayed close to us was a very dangerous moment for us. We needed to cash in and really do a better job offensively."

"I think we played a little tight in the second half trying to get that third goal to try to put the nail in the coffin. But it didn't happen and we've just got to do a little better job next time."

"This team has been such a joy and a pleasure to coach this year. They're very close-knit. They do everything together. The more they win, the better it is for us and the better it is for them. They have a better experience." – Rider Head Coach Lori Hussong

- With the win, the Broncs clinched a Northeast Conference tournament berth, the 20th consecutive postseason conference tournament berth in Hussong's 20-year tenure.
