LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ –
Amanda Binder (Princeton, NJ/West Windsor Plainsboro H.S. North) won at both singles and doubles, but the Rider University women's tennis team fell to Wagner, 5-2, Wednesday afternoon. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 1-3, while the Seahawks are now 2-0.
Binder paired with
Sarah Cheverie (Calgary, Alberta, Canada/National Sport School [Montana State]) on a 6-2 win over Diana Pinzariu and Fidan Khalilzade at No. 2 doubles, before getting past Alegra d'Alessandro at No. 4 singles, 6-3, 7-5.
The Broncs took the doubles point with a 7-5 win at No. 1 from
Cyd Melendez (Cayey, Puerto Rico/Colegio La Merced) and
Angelica Garcia (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Academia Maria Reina) over Vedika Anand and Samantha Lugtu. However, Wagner took the remaining four singles flights contested, as well as a forfeit at No. 6 to claim the 5-2 victory. Cheverie's match at No. 3 went to a third set, but she fell to Khalilzade, 5-7, 6-1, 10-8.
The Broncs return to action Saturday, when they travel to Fairfield at noon.
