SCHENECTADY, NY – The Rider University women's tennis team was swept at Siena, 7-0, Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Broncs slip to 1-6 (0-3 MAAC), while the Saints are now 2-0 (1-0 MAAC).
Siena took the doubles point with wins at Nos. 1 and 2, while a third doubles flight was not contested.
Cyd Melendez (Cayey, Puerto Rico/Colegio La Merced) and
Angelica Garcia (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Academia Maria Reina) pushed Meagan Brown and Anastasia Koniaev at No. 1, but fell, 6-4.
Siena then swept the five singles matches played. Garcia's match was the most competitive, as she battled Maanya Viswanath, but fell, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 2.
Sarah Cheverie (Calgary, Alberta, Canada/National Sport School [Montana State]) was also competitive at No. 4, but fell to Juliana Goehner, 6-4, 6-2.
The Broncs return to action Sunday, when they play host to Marist. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
