SCHENECTADY, NY –
Javier Melendez (Cayey, Puerto Rico/Colegio Nuestra Senora de la Merced) and
Peter Komosinski (Lake Hopatcong, NJ/Laurel Springs) won at No. 2 doubles, but the Rider University men's tennis team fell at Siena, 7-0, Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 1-5 (0-3 MAAC), while the Saints are now 2-1 (1-0 MAAC).
Melendez and Komosinski defeated Alex Giannakitsidis and Matt Bellino, 6-4, at No. 2 doubles. But the Saints took the remaining two doubles flights to take the point.
In singles, a pair of matches went to a third set, while all were competitive. Melendez was edged by Tomas Del Olmo, 7-5, 6-7, 10-7, at No. 2, while
Adrian Tsui (Roslyn Heights, NY/Roslyn) fell to Guillermo Lopez Torres, 6-3, 3-6, 10-5, at No. 3. The remaining four singles flights were all won by Siena, with Rider taking at least three games in every set.
The Broncs return to action Sunday, when they play host to Marist. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
