Fourth-Quarter Push Leads Field Hockey Past Merrimack on Friday

The Broncs improved to 2-0 in NEC play with the road victory

MEDFORD, MA – Sophomore Julia Divorra (Terrassa, Spain/Vedruna Vall) scored a pair of goals and added an assist, while classmate Carly Brosious (Drexel Hill, PA/Monsignor Bonner/Archbishop Prendergast) dished out two assists go along with a goal of her own as the Rider University field hockey team defeated Merrimack, 4-2, on Friday evening on the campus of Tufts University at Ounjian Field in Northeast Conference action.
 
The Broncs (8-3, 2-0 NEC) won their second straight conference contest, while the Warriors (2-9, 1-1 NEC) dropped their second game in a row.  
 
Divorra and Brosious scored the first two Rider markers on the day as the Broncs held a 2-1 midway through the third quarter.
 
With the score tied at two in the fourth quarter, Divorra gave the guests the lead for good with her second goal of the game off a feed from Brosious early in the final frame.
 
Later in the fourth, sophomore Tess van Ommeren (Amsterdam, Netherlands/Sint Nicolaas Lyceum) added an insurance goal for the Broncs to stretch the Rider lead to two at 4-2.
 
In the cage for Rider, Lena Vandam (Brasschaat, Belgium) made two saves to earn the victory.

- The meeting was the first-ever between the Broncs and the Warriors.
- Merrimack is in its first season as a Division I program having previously competed at the NCAA Division II level.
- Rider has won six of its last seven games.
- Through two conference games, the Broncs have outscored opponents, 8-3.
- Rider has scored four or more goals in each of its last six victories.
- The Broncs outshot the Warriors, 29-5. Rider had 22 shots on goal and Merrimack had four.
- The Broncs took six penalty corners and Merrimack had zero.
 
BRONCS BY THE NUMBERS
- Divorra had two or more goals in a game for the second time this year. When Divorra scores a goal this season, the Broncs are 8-0. It marked her second game this fall with five or more points. The game-winning goal was her third of the season and the third of her career.
- Brosious had four or more points in a game for the fourth time this autumn. She had two assists in a game for the second time this year.
- Tess van Ommeren had a season-high four shots on goal for the Broncs. She had her third marker of the season and it was the eighth goal of her career.
