LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ –
Javier Melendez (Cayey, Puerto Rico/Colegio Nuestra Senora de la Merced) won his No. 2 singles match, but the Rider University men's tennis team fell to St. Francis Brooklyn, 6-1, Tuesday afternoon. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 1-3, while the Terriers are now 2-0.
Pablo Salar Carrera (Barcelona, Spain/IES Jaume Balmes) and
Adrian Tsui (Roslyn Heights, NY/Roslyn) paired on a 7-5 No. 1 singles win over Tomas Dirube and Pau Grabuleda. However, the Terriers took the doubles point with wins at Nos. 2 and 3.
Melendez took a 6-3, 7-5, win over Dirube at No. 2 singles. But St. Francis took the remaining five singles flights to account for the 6-1 victory. Tsui forced a third set at No. 3, before falling to Facundo Couso, 3-6, 6-4, 10-6.
The Broncs return to action Saturday, when they travel to Fairfield. First serve is scheduled for 12 p.m.
