Wrestling Defeats Hofstra, 24-16

Cefolo wins fifth-straight match, third-straight by fall

HEMPSTEAD, NYAnthony Cefolo (Florham Park, NJ/Hanover Park Regional) won his fifth-straight match, including three-straight by fall, as the Rider University wrestling team defeated Hofstra, 24-16, Saturday afternoon at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex. With the win, the Broncs are now 5-3, while the Pride falls to 4-8.

Hofstra came out strong with wins in three of the first four bouts to take a 13-6 advantage. Cefolo's pin of Jacob Martin at 133 accounted for the three Rider points before Gino Fluri (Blairstown, NJ/North Warren Regional) earned a decision at 157 and Jesse Dellavecchia (Great River, NY/East Islip) won by forfeit to give Rider the 15-13 lead.

The Pride retook the lead, 16-15, with a decision at 174, before the Broncs won the last three matches. Michale Fagg-Daves (Somerset, NJ/Franklin) won a 7-6 decision at 184, while Ethan Laird (Waterford, PA/General McLane) won, 3-1, in sudden victory at 197. Ryan Cloud (Brookville, OH/Northmont) wrapped up the win with a 5-3 decision at 285.

- Rider has now won six-straight over Hofstra to cut its deficit in the all-time series to 24-23.  
- Cefolo's fifth win by fall of the year gives him the team lead.

- The Broncs return to EWL action Thursday, when they travel to George Mason at 7 p.m.
