Amari Johnson's Double-Double Leads Women's Basketball Past St. Peter's

The Broncs defeated their hOURglass rival, 60-38, on Friday evening

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Junior Amari Johnson (Red Lion, PA/Dallastown) recorded her first career double-double to lead the Rider University women's basketball team past visiting hOURglass rival Saint Peter's, 60-38, on Friday evening in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action inside Alumni Gym.

The Broncs (9-7, 5-0 MAAC) remained unbeaten in MAAC play with the 22-point victory, while the Peacocks (6-11, 1-5 MAAC) have now dropped five of their first six conference games this season.

Rider opened the game on a 7-0 run over the first 4:45 of play and never looked back. The Broncs held the Peacocks to just nine percent (1-of-11 shooting) in the first quarter to build a lead they would never relinquish.

Rider never trailed in the contest, stretching their advantage to as many as 25 points late in the fourth quarter following a jumper from junior Tracey Goodman (Lansdale, PA/Phil-Mont Christian Academy).

Two Broncs scored in double figures led by Amari with a game-high 17 points to go along with a career-high 13 rebounds. Classmate Lea Favre (Vevey, Switzerland/Lycee Jeanne d'Arc) was the other Rider player in double figures with 10 points on 5-of-10 shooting.

NOTES & QUOTES
"It's great to win on our home floor. We haven't been home in a while. Tonight was another step towards what we think we can be defensively. Saint Peter's came in hot off a big win. I was really proud of our defensive effort, particularly in the second half. We were on the same page and we got some good stops to help our offense get into more of a flow. Overall it was a solid home win." – Rider Head Coach Lynn Milligan

"We talk about lessons learned in wins and lessons learned in losses. It's easy to pick apart a loss. It's a little bit hard to take accountability after a win and I think we did great job. When you have a lead playing good defense can help extend that lead." – Milligan

"Especially in zone, were always looking to hit the next pass. Our team is very unselfish this year. We all have confidence in one another that we're going to hit our open shots. Sharing the ball is something we work on every day in practice." – Senior point guard Lexi Posset

"Personally, I think defense is the most important aspect of the game. Playing well on defense for us translates into offense. Getting steals and blocks is a plus to hype up the crowd. It feels exciting to get a double-double. Rebounding is a big part of my game and it's nice to finally see it pay off on paper." Junior guard Amari Johnson
