Volleyball Soars Past Siena Saturday

Balanced effort gives Broncs third conference win

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ - The Rider University volleyball team swept the visiting Siena Saints in Alumni Gym on Saturday afternoon in impressive fashion. The Broncs won all three sets 25-10, 25-17, and 25-14 respectively. With the win, Rider improves to 7-5 (3-2 MAAC) while Siena drops to 1-14 (0-4 MAAC).

The Broncs had 38 kills for the match and hit .307 as a team, which makes it two of the last three contests the team has attacked at over a .300 mark. Leading that charge was senior Savannah Logan (Jupiter, FL/Benjamin), who had a team-leading nine kills and 11 points. Classmate Hailey Riede (Haworth, NJ/Northern Valley-Demarest) had seven kills while sophomore Meredith Pellegrino (Norwalk, CT/Brien McMahon) had five.

Defensively, junior Evelyn Shanefield (Drexel Hill, PA/Upper Darby) assisted on five blocks up the middle with Logan helping on two of her own. Junior libero Rachelle Runyon (Aliso Viejo, CA/Aliso Niguel) had 19 digs while sophomore Brynn Sherbert (Temecula, CA/Great Oak) contributed 10 of her own on the back line.

Setter Delaney St. Pierre (Colorado Springs, CO/Coronado) dished out a career-high 28 assists and two aces.

QUOTES & NOTES
"I've been sick this week so my assistants stepped up and did a nice job preparing the athletes. To the credit of the team, they had a really good week of practice in preparing for these matches and it showed in how they operated. We got down a little bit, but they found ways to make corrections and I tip my hat to my assistants and I tip my hat to my team." - Rider Head Coach Christopher Feliciano

- With seven kills today, Riede passes Stefanie Lombardo for sixth on the all-time Rider kills list with 1,092. Next on the list is former teammate Kaitlyn Griffin, who had 1,110 in her Bronc career.
- Today's match was the eighth this season where the Broncs had at least ten block assists in a match. This was the second that was a three-set match.

BRONCS BY THE NUMBERS
- Rider had a strong interior presence on the net, as Shanefield and senior Perry Williams (Portland, OR/Cleveland) combined for nine kills against just one error.
- Sophomore Danielle Blanco (El Paso, TX/Franklin) had nine digs off the bench.
- Runyon had double-digit digs for the tenth straight match and eleventh overall this season. She has had at least eight digs in every match for her last fourteen appearances dating back to November 11, 2017.
