Field Hockey Erupts for 10 Goals in Win at Hofstra

Freshman Carly Brosious had 2 goals & 2 assists for the Broncs

HEMPSTEAD, NY – Four different Broncs scored two goals apiece as the Rider University field hockey team raced past Hofstra, 10-4, on Friday afternoon in non-conference action at the Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium.

Freshman Carly Brosious (Drexel Hill, PA/Archbishop Pendergast) scored two goals to go along with a pair of assists and classmate Julia Divorra (Terassa, Spain/Vedruna Vall) chipped in a pair of tallies and a career-high three assists. The duo combined for 13 points in Rider's most lopsided victory of the fall.

The Broncs (4-3) avenged a 3-2 setback to the Pride (2-8) last autumn on the road.

Junior Tess Coorens (Leiden, Netherlands/Visser'T Hooft Lyceum) continued her stellar play for the guests as she potted one tally, while adding a pair of assists.

Rider wasted little time getting on the board as the Broncs scored a pair of markers in the first five minutes of action. Coorens put the guests on the board with her sixth goal of the season and just over a minute later sophomore Marion Waterkeyn (Antwerp, Belgium/OLVE) gave the Broncs a 2-0 edge.

Midway through the first half, Hofstra cut the deficit to just one at 3-2. Following that strike, the Broncs scored twice to take a 5-2 edge into halftime.

Rider added five more goals in the second half to pull away with the win.

In goal, sophomore Lena Vandam (Brasschaat, Belgium) made three saves en route to her fourth victory of the year.

"Defensively we need to do a better of defending our circle and clearing the ball after Lena makes a save and we will work hard tomorrow to fix our mistakes and  be prepared for Villanova on Sunday." – Hussong
