Volleyball Falls in Season Opener to Lehigh

Hailey Riede notches her 1,000th kill

Easton, PA - The Rider University volleyball team began their 2018 campaign with a 3-0 loss against Lehigh at the Crosstown Tournament Friday night. Hosted by Lafayette College, the tournament field also features Coppin State, Manhattan, and Rutgers. With the 25-14, 25-23, 25-15 win, Lehigh improves to 4-0 as Rider goes to 0-1.

Offensively, senior Hailey Riede (Haworth, NJ/Northern Valley-Demarest) became the eighth Bronc to surpass 1,000 career kills, the fourth under Head Coach Christopher Feliciano. Riede led the Broncs with 12 kills and a .333 hitting percentage on the night. In the setter role, freshman Anilee Sher (Poughkeepsie, NY/Spackenkill) came one dig shy of a double-double in her collegiate debut while dishing out 24 assists. Junior Rachelle Runyon (Aliso Viejo, CA/Aliso Niguel) had 10 digs in her first action as the starting libero.

Notes & Quotes
"There were moments tonight that you saw first game jitters and others where you saw what we could potentially be. It will be up to the team to make it a potential reality. What will go a long way in helping with this process will be the ability to remain balanced." - Rider Head Coach Christopher Feliciano

"Hailey joining the 1,000 kill club is a very impressive feat, especially getting this milestone on the opening night of her senior season. We are lucky she's wearing a Rider uniform." - Feliciano

- Lehigh improves to 23-10 all-time against the Broncs, with Rider's last win coming in 2004.
