Davidson, NC - The Rider University field hockey team obtained the program's 400th win in dominating fashion, defeating Davidson College 5-0 on Friday night. With the win, the Broncs improve to 1-1 while the Wildcats fall to 1-2.
Rider got off to a fast start after a two hour lightning delay, as
Tess Coorens (Leiden, Netherlands/Visser 'T Hooft Lyceum) converted off a
Tess van Ommeren (Amsterdam, Netherlands/Sint Nicolaas Lyceum) pass on a seventh minute penalty corner to give the Broncs an early 1-0 lead. In the 24th minute, freshman
Julia Divorra (Terrassa, Spain/Vedruna Vall) scored her first collegiate goal to double the Rider advantage. Less than nine minutes later,
Kaitlyn Flemming (Bellmawr, NJ/Triton Regional) took a loose ball in front of the cage and scored to give Rider a 3-0 lead at the end of the first half.
In the second half, the Broncs showed no signs of slowing down, as freshman
Carly Brosious (Drexel Hill, PA/Monsignor Bonner/Archbishop Prendergast) scored off a
Jade Freeberg (West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) pass in another penalty corner situation to extend the lead to four. The final goal came from the Tesses, with Coorens feeding van Ommeren for her first collegiate goal to make up the final score.
