Baseball Shifts Weekend Series with hOURglass Rival Saint Peter's

The Broncs and Peacocks begin the weekend set Friday at 1pm.

What You Need to Know
- Rider returns home to conclude a four-game home stand with a weekend series against Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and hOURglass rival Saint Peter's this weekend. The Broncs shifted their weekend series with the Peacocks. The teams will now play a game on Friday at 1:00 pm followed by a doubleheader on Saturday that begins at noon. The first game on Saturday will be a seven-inning contest.

- The Broncs are looking to end a six-game losing streak. At home this season, Rider is 1-4 with a win against Iona and trio of non-conference setbacks.

- Last year in Jersey City, the Broncs swept the Peacocks. In the three-game series, Rider outscored SPU, 50-5, highlighted by a 28-4 victory in game two of the series. Richie Tecco went 2-for-4 in the opener with three RBIs, Harrison McClure, Christian Estevez and Joe Simone all had three hits in game two and the Broncs blanked the Peacocks in game three.

- Rider is 59-10 all-time against Saint Peter's. The Broncs have won four in a row versus the Peacocks.

- The Peacocks enter the weekend 0-24 on the season. SPU has lost 63 straight games dating back to the end of the 2016 season. The last win and conference win for Saint Peter's came in May of 2016 in Lawrenceville against the Broncs.   

- Sophomore Joe Simone has been on a tear over the last week. In a five-game stretch he is batting .600 (12-of-20) with three RBIs, two doubles, three runs scored and two stolen bases. Last time out he went 4-for-6 with two doubles, an RBI and a stolen base. It marked his second straight three-hit game and his four multi-hit game in a row.

- Simone is batting a team-best .347 this spring. He also leads the team with a .471 on-base percentage, 20 walks, one triple and 11 extra-base hits. Simone is tied with Riley Mihalik for the most doubles on the team (9), tied with Harrison McClure for the most steals on the squad (6) and both Mihalik and Johnson for the most RBIs on the team (11).

- Senior Jake Bender is enjoying a strong campaign for the Broncs. He is hitting .291 with a team-best 16 runs scored and five stolen bases.

- On the basepaths, five Broncs have five or more steals this year.

- Rider has a team ERA of 6.51 this year. Jordan Silverman has made a team-best 16 appearances and boasts a 4.80 ERA and a 1-3 record. Sophomore starter Pete Soporowski is 2-3 this year with a 5.30 ERA and 33 strikeouts in 37.1 innings of work.

- Saint Peter's has been outscored, 309-52, this year. The Peacocks are hitting .179 and have a team ERA of 12.46.
