Stetson Sweeps Softball

Chain, Clark compile four hits each

DELAND, FLMonica Clark (Bryn Mawr, PA/Archbishop Carroll) and Maddy Chain (Gloucester, NJ/Gloucester City) had four hits each, including the 100th of Clark's career, but the Rider University softball team was swept in a doubleheader at Stetson Tuesday afternoon. With the losses, the Broncs fall to 2-13, while the Hatters improve to 18-9.

The Hatters took Game 1, 5-1, on the strength of two runs in the fourth, another in the fifth and two more in the sixth. The Broncs scored their lone run in the fifth. Brianna Parisio (Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville War Memorial) reached on an infield single and was replaced on the basepaths following a fielder's choice off the bat of Toni Nino (Adelanto, CA/Silverado). Nino stole second and scored on a dropped fly ball. But the lone run was all the Broncs would score.

In Game 2, Stetson took a 2-0 lead with single runs in the first and second innings, before the Broncs struck for three runs in the top of the third. Cuttic, Clark and Kiera Swank (Bear, DE/Caravel Academy) each contributed run-scoring base hits in the rally, as the Broncs took a 3-2 lead. But the Hatters would even the score in the bottom of the fourth, score two more in the fifth to take the lead and cushioned the advantage with a run in the sixth.

The Broncs scored twice in the top of the seventh to pull to within a run on an RBI single from Clark and a run-scoring groundout from Swank. But Stetson closed out the 6-5 win and the sweep.
