BUIES CREEK, NC – Senior infielder
Jake Bender (Ellicott City, MD/Marriotts Ridge) collected a pair of hits and reached base three times, but it wasn't enough as the Rider University baseball team lost on the road to Campbell, 9-0, on Tuesday evening at Jim Perry Stadium.
The Broncs (4-11) dropped their eighth straight game outside of Lawrenceville, while the Camels (7-9) won their third home contest in a row.
Campbell took advantage of four walks, two hit by pitches, two wild pitches and a pair of Rider miscues to plate eight runs over the first three innings. The deficit would prove to be too much for the Broncs to overcome as Camel starter Alex Winans tossed six shutout innings and fanned 12 Rider hitters.
On the mound, junior
Nick Payesko (Yardville, NJ/Holy Ghost Prep) was stellar for Rider out of the bullpen. He worked four and a third scoreless innings without surrendering a hit to keep the Broncs in it. Payesko fanned three Camels and issued a pair of walks. Freshman
Ray Pacella (Stony Point, NY/North Rockland) got the start and was saddled with the loss. Â
