BUIES CREEK, NC – Sophomore catcher
Tyler Stockwell (LaPlata, MD/LaPlata High School) had a career day at the plate to lead the Rider University baseball team past Campbell, 13-4, on Wednesday afternoon at Jim Perry Stadium.
The Broncs (5-11) snapped an eight-game skid with the victory, while the Camels (7-10) saw their three-game home winning streak come to an end.
Stockwell had a monster day, going 3-for-5 with a career-high five RBIs. He recorded his second multi-hit game of the season and the second one of his young career.
After Campbell opened the scoring in the first, Stockwell gave a Rider a lead it would not surrender with a two-run double to left field. His one-out, two-bagger gave the Broncs and junior starter
CJ Hirschy (Toms River, NJ/Toms River HS East) a 2-1 advantage heading into the bottom of the second.
An inning later, Rider would tack on three more runs to stretch their lead to four at 5-1 after two and half innings. In the frame, sophomore
Kyle Johnson (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial) hit a sac fly and both Stockwell and senior
Christian Estevez (River Edge, NJ/River Dell) added RBI singles.
The Broncs would break the game open with three runs in seventh and four more in the eighth. Stockwell had a big, two-run single in the seventh after a Camel error and junior
Riley Mihalik (Churchville, PA/Chesnut Hill Academy) smacked a three-run, opposite field bomb in the eighth.
Hirschy was effective on the bump for the Broncs, working five innings and allowing two earned runs. He scattered five hits to pick up his first win of the spring. Â Â
