CONWAY, SC –
Elyse Cuttic (Easton, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) went the distance in the circle, but the Rider University softball team fell to the University of Connecticut, 3-0, to close out play in the Battle at the Beach, hosted by Coastal Carolina, Sunday afternoon. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 0-5, while the Huskies are now 5-4.
Toni Nino (Adelanto, CA/Silverado) had a triple and
Amanda Jordan (Somerset, NJ/Franklin) added a double among Rider's four hits on the day.
Maddy Chain (Gloucester, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) and
Kiera Swank (Bear, DE/Caravel Academy) also added base hits.
The Huskies got a pair of singles to open the game and pushed the first run across on a pair of groundouts in the top of the first. They'd tack on two insurance runs in the top of the seventh, with the runs scoring on a sacrifice fly and a wild pitch.
