Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Storms Past Wagner, 89-65

Allen scores 24 points, hits six three-pointers

STATEN ISLAND, NY Jordan Allen (Dover, DE/Dover) hit six three-pointers and scored a team-high 24 points as the Rider University men's basketball stormed past Wagner, 89-65, on the road Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Broncs improve to 2-1, while the Seahawks are now 2-4.

Allen led four Broncs in double figures and 11 in the scoring column. Dimencio Vaughn (New York, NY/Callaway/The Masters School) added 19 points, seven rebounds and three steals, while Frederick Scott (Munster, IN/Simeon [DePaul]) and Tyere Marshall (Philadelphia, PA/Martin Luther King/Putnam Science) added 10 points apiece.

The Broncs used a full-court press from the opening minutes and took the lead for good on the first of Allen's six three-pointers at the 17:33 mark of the first half. A 13-0 run including a dunk and three-pointer from Vaughn and punctuated by consecutive Allen three's pushed Rider's lead to double-digits and Stevie Jordan's (Bensalem, PA/Conwell-Egan/API) fast-break lay-up gave Rider a 21-point lead at the break. The lead swelled to 30 early in the second half and Wagner could draw no closer than to within 20 the rest of the way.

Quotes & Notes
"I thought our guys just came with the right mindset, the right approach. We've had time to prepare for these guys. They came with a lot of energy, very focused. We've gotten better over the down time we've had to get better. And we're starting to come around. We've starting to form into the team that I would think and hope that we're going to be. We have a long way to go, but I like what we're doing at this point." – Rider Head Coach Kevin Baggett

"In the locker room, coach was telling us to keep the same energy we had last game. We just wanted to jump out and attack them from the beginning of the game."

(On the full-court press) "It just makes us play our game. That's the game that we want to play. We want to get up and down, force the tempo, make it faster and get buckets." – Rider junior guard Stevie Jordan

- Rider now leads the all-time series, 20-5, including eight of the last nine.
- Though Rider has a commanding lead in the all-time series, the blowout was a departure from the last four meetings, which were decided by an average of 3.75 points, including a six-point differential in an overtime finish last season.
- The Broncs return to action Wednesday, when they travel to West Virginia at 6:30 p.m.

Broncs by the Numbers

- Rider shot a season-high 50.8 percent (30-59) from the floor, including 45.8 percent (11-24) from long range.
- The Broncs outscored Wagner, 37-18, in the paint and took a decided 43-27 edge on the glass, including a 13-5 margin in offensive rebounds.
