LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ –
Angelica Garcia (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Academia Maria Reina) picked up a pair of wins, one each at singles and doubles, but the Rider University women's tennis team fell to Fairfield, 6-1, Tuesday afternoon. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 3-5 (1-3 MAAC), while the Stags are now 4-0 (1-0 MAAC).
Garcia paired with
Cyd Melendez (Cayey, Puerto Rico/Colegio La Merced) on a 6-3 win at the top doubles flight over Diana Prinos and Anna Komer. But the Stags needed just one win to take the doubles point with Rider once again playing with just five player. Fairfield took a 6-3 win at No. 2 to take the 1-0 match lead.
Garcia earned a 7-6 (3), 6-2, victory over Komer at No. 3 singles. But that was the lone victory the Broncs would get. The Stags limited the Broncs to no more than three games won in the remaining four matches contested.
Rider returns to action Sunday, when it plays host to St. Francis Brooklyn at 3 p.m.
