LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ –
Javier Melendez (Cayey, Puerto Rico/Colegio La Merced) and
Peter Komosinski (Lake Hopatcong, NJ/Laurel Springs) won twice each to lead the Rider University men's tennis team to a 4-3 win over St. Francis Brooklyn Friday afternoon. With the win, the Broncs improve to 2-3, while the Terriers are now 0-1.
The Broncs took the top two doubles flights to take a 1-0 lead. Komosinski and
Lysander Payano Almonte (New Brunswick, NJ/Colegio Quusquey/Rockland C.C.) paired to defeat Alejandro Ridruejo and Tomas Dirube, 6-4, at No. 1, while Melendez and
Nicholas Salazar (Miami, FL/Westminster Christian School) got past Daniel Blasco and Grant Louis, 6-3, at No. 2.
Melendez made quick work of Guillermo Artiz, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 2 singles, while
Ryan Ciaccio (Mercerville, NJ/Hamilton North [Nottingham]) also won in straight sets at No. 5 over Stefan Gmijovic, 7-5, 6-3. Komosinski clinched the match with a 7-6 (7), 7-5, victory over Dirube at No. 3 singles.
"Peter came from behind to win the second set," said Rider Head Coach Doug Potkay. "It was a great way to end the Fall season!"
The match concludes the Broncs' fall schedule. Rider returns to action in the spring, with its first match scheduled for Feb. 24 at Delaware.
