PHILADELPHIA – Sophomore
Clement Bourret (Orleans, France/Lycee Jean Giraudoux) scored the golden goal in the Rider University men's soccer team's 1-0 overtime victory at Temple Sunday night. With the win, the Broncs improve to 2-1-0, while the Owls are now 1-1-2.
Temple tested Rider goalkeeper
David Pastuna (Robbinsville, NJ/Robbinsville) in the first half, forcing the redshirt senior to make five saves. Included in the tally was a one-on-one opportunity from point-blank range that Pastuna steered away with his right hand in the 41
st minute.
Following another 45 minutes of scoreless action, the game headed to overtime. Rider kept the pressure on from the outside, earning a corner kick in the 93
rd minute. Temple goalkeeper Alex Cagle came away with the ball following the corner, but his punt was controlled at midfield by Rider.
Jose Aguinaga (Madrid, Spain) fed
Pablo DeCastro (Madrid, Spain) and the latter lofted a ball into the box that Bourret beat his defender to and chipped it over the charging Cagle for the game winner.
Quotes and Notes
"Very good win. Temple's a good team. They had some really good results, beating Villanova and going down to Delaware and getting a draw. So, getting a win against a bigger conference team on the road is huge. I thought we played a really good first half and I think we could've been up two in the first half. We didn't tuck away our chances. In the second half, we weren't so good. Maybe it was a fitness thing early in the season. But it was good that some veteran guys stepped up and rose to the occasion to contribute at the end."
"Clement drew a penalty kick on the exact same play last year. It was a good team win and for a young group of guys, we've got to be happy with it. Now we have to rest up and get ready for La Salle."
"
David Pastuna made two huge saves – one in the first half and another in the second. It was good to see him step up and, to me, he was probably the man of the match tonight."
