Rider's Rally Falls Short at Hofstra

The Broncs lost 3-2 to the Pride in New York on Wednesday

Hempstead, NY – The Rider University field hockey team fell on the road to Hofstra, 3-2, in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon at the Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium.

The Broncs (3-4) lost their fourth straight road contest, while the Pride (5-5) snapped a two-game skid to pick up their fourth victory at home this fall.

Rider fell behind early, surrendering two Hofstra goals in the first five minutes of the game. Madison Sauve got the hosts on the board less than a minute into play with her seventh goal of the season and Philine de Wolf gave the Pride a two-goal edge with a tally 4:51 into play.

The marker was the eighth of the season for de Wolf and her first of two on the day.

Rider freshman Kaitlyn Flemming (Bellmawr, NJ/Triton Regional High School) cut the deficit in half and got the Broncs on board with less than a minute left in the first half as she converted a feed from classmate Eline De Jong (Groningen, Netherlands/Praedinius Gymnasium).

De Jong beat the Hofstra defender marking her and Flemming found the back of the cage as Rider trailed by one at 2-1 at the half.

Seven minutes into the second half, de Wolf scored her second goal of the day to give the Pride a 3-1 lead. The marker would prove to be the game-winner.

With under nine minutes left in regulation, Alice Otterson (Stratford, New Zealand/New Plymouth) pulled the Broncs back within one with a strike. Otterson tipped a shot from Shannon Hughes (South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) past the Hofstra keeper for her first goal of the season.

Freshman Lena Vandam (Brasschaat, Belgium) made four saves in a losing effort for Rider.
